Tonight, the Ministry of Defense is publicly congratulating one of the high ranking members of the Belize Coast Guard for continuing his education.
He's Lieutenant Gregory Soberanis, and for the past year, he had been attending the United States Naval War College in New Port, Rhode Island.
The Ministry says that he is the first Belizean to attend the 1-year version of the course, and he was elected the class president. After completing the course, he won the International Leadership Award for being the most outstanding overseas student.
Lieutenant Soberanis will return, and he will resume his post as the Fleet Commander. When he does, he will also be the Acting Vice Commander of the Coast Guard, since Lieutenant Commander Elton Bennett is away studying. Bennett is presently taking the Advance Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom.
