“We’ve been following a number of leads over the past few days. Some of them proved to be futile. But we continued to work with the community and also the family. The family was very helpful in helping us in the recapture of Mister Santos. I want to say kudos to the police officers, especially our investigators who have been following all the leads and also to the special patrol unit that was there throughout this search for Mister Santos.â€￾

“He will be charged today and taken to court?â€￾

Sr. Sup. Howell Gillett- O. C. Belmopan
“Well, he has two charges pending. Those charges are possession of a firearm and also possession of unlicensed ammunition. So those are sufficient to have him held in our custody and the investigation will continue not only in Belmopan with the murder but there was another murder where his name was called up and he needs to be interviewed both in Belmopan and in San Ignacio.â€￾

And of course, that San Ignacio case that Gillett is referring to is the Jorge Lemus’ Unitedville murder. Police say that Santos did not resist arrest. Reports to us suggest that police appealed to his family to turn him in, since it was leading to a volatile situation in the village.
