BDF Helicopter Swoops In To Save Stranded Boys In Flash Flood
posted (July 10, 2017)
And in better news from the BDF, they used one of their helicopters to great effect this weekend. One of the UH1H choppers was used in its first rescue mission. It was deployed to the western Toledo District in San Benito Poite where three children, ages 10, 14 and 16 years old, had been stranded on the wrong side of the river. A flash flood washed away the hammock bridge, and the main bridge was submerged. The currents were too strong for any boat to attempt to bring them back over to the home side of the river. So, the BDF flew in, found a landing area, loaded the boys up and took them back across the river. The young men had gone fishing and hadn't heard any advisories about severe weather advisories in the area.

This is the first rescue mission after the pilots graduated less than two weeks ago.
