Courtney Is Tops In Environmental Course
posted (July 10, 2017)
On Saturday night, Channel 7's Courtney Weatherburne won the award for best story when the Belize Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage concluded a 12 month course in environmental journalism. The course was called "Safeguarding the future: the environmental and economic connection in Belize". It focused on topics and issues at the crossroads of environmental and economic issues. The curriculum also included lessons on basic journalism and news gathering skills, best practices, and instruction in the use of social media and digital platforms. Holly Edgell was the lead course instructor.

At the end, each participant had to submit what's called a capstone project and Courtney's was her story on Monkey River, called Environmental Catastrophe, Social Calamity: Monkey River and the Swallowing Sea - which aired a month ago on 7News.

She was honored with the night's top prize at a course completion dinner and award ceremony at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina on Saturday.
