Three Months Later, Cross Country Doping Tests Still Not Back
posted (July 12, 2017)

The Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic race was held on Holy Saturday April 15th., but three months later, the prizes for the top finishers haven't been handed out yet, and that’s because the drug tests haven’t come back from the UCLA Olympic Laboratory.

What’s the holdup? Well, according to reports, UCLA says Belize’s National Olympic Committee owes then thousands of dollars for tests done in previous years - which they didn't get paid for. Now, the Belize Cycling Federation President Dion Leslie told us that it’s not their fault because the Federation has fully paid the National Anti Doping Organization’s Representative in Belize - and he says the Federation has its receipts.

These payments should have then been passed unto the National Olympic Committee, which is the body that liaises directly with the Olympic Lab at UCLA.

But somewhere along the line, the money never made it to the UCLA lab, and now they are holding unto the four samples sent from the Cross Country, and won’t test them until they get paid. And until that happens, the riders - two of whom are foreign - will not be receiving their Cross Country winnings.

We tried to reach President of the NOC Hilly Martinez for comment, but he was unavailable today - and said he will comment tomorrow.
