Opp. Leader Wants BDF Investigation
posted (July 13, 2017)
Tonight, Leader of the Opposition John Briceno is calling for an investigation into the irregularities that ended with those 90 plus discarded BDF uniforms inside an Orange Walk home.

As we've reported, the uniforms were part of 1,200 which the Ministry of Finance had sent to the Ministry of Finance for destruction. In what the Financial secretary calls a "major breach", one of the persons contracted to destroy the items, Sarco Torres ended up with 100 of the uniforms at his house. Some of these uniforms were then found with a Mexican who was heading form Belize to Botes.

But, of greatest concern is that a BDF Major was in contact with Sarco Torres talking about BDF deployments in the area. It's important to note that the BDF and the Police are the ones who found the Mexican with the BDF uniforms - in a monthly operation called Northern Seal. Today the Leader of the Opposition said the irregularities must be investigated:

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"But to me what is even of greater concern is that it seems that there is a high ranking member of the BDF that somehow seems to have been involved with these people, because why is it that the Mexican was communicating with him? Why is it that Commander Jones doesn't want to do a full investigation as to get to the bottom of it? We can't cover up these things. It is because of the constant cover up that we do that these things continue to happen."

The BDF is not conducting an investigation and neither is the Ministry of Defense - which says they are wining in police.
