If you follow the news, you might remember Kevin Carcamo - he's the former chairman of the Hattieville Village Council who went missing in July, 2014. His disappearance remains a mystery - and for weeks now we've been hearing reports that he slipped away to the US while his family has been looking for him here.
Again, it's a rumor but it picked up traction today when the FACEBOOK page NBZLive posted a story saying that Carcamo is alive and well in the United States.
It adds, quote, "Our source claims that someone familiar to Commissioner of Police Whylie spoke with Carcamo recently and intimated that Whylie knows Carcamo's whereabouts." Now, we now that Whylie is a relative of Carcamo through marriage - so we reached out to the Commissioner via text message.
He said he hadn't seen the story and when we provided a picture of it, here's what he had to say.
Quote, "(the claim that I know Carcamo's whereabouts is a) Figment of who so ever runs NBZLive's imagination as I know nothing of such."
The commissioner adds, quote, "NBZLive should be encouraged to:
1). print where the former Chairman allegedly is in the US
2). provide proof of such to his family who are still grieving and continue to search for him
3). as well as publish the name of this so called familiar someone who is said to have spoken to Carcamo.
And he ends his statement as follows, quote,
"Kindly be informed that the Belize Police Department Investigation into the disappearance of Kevin Carcamo remains open and all leads received are actively pursued."
