Today the BTB held its third annual Digital Summit. As we told you in our preview on Wednesday, the one-day event is an opportunity for tourism stakeholders to learn how to harness the internet and social media as marketing tools. Two of the presenters told us its all about finding how to attract social media users with marketing content tailored to their interests:...

James Lager, Connections Strategy Supervisor - CIsco
"It's really important to be active in social, because it's becoming increasingly large part of people's media consumption and that provides a lot of opportunities for brands and specifically in Belize things like hotels and tour operators - the opportunity to reach the people that matter to their business."

"Obviously there are 2 and half million pieces of content that are published to Facebook every single minute. So it's increasingly important that your content is adding value to people's lives as opposed to just selling them on a product."

Brenda Saldana, ING Communications - Guatemala
"We analyze your YouTube viewers or your video viewers in every publisher page and then we match your interest, so we put some videos about what you are watching. So if you are looking some destination like vacations or traveling this weekend or something like that, we put advertising about Belize or from any destination."

Reporter
"Should the businesses be directing their focus on a particular social media forums?"

James Lager, Connections Strategy Supervisor - Cisco
"I think it really comes down to an individual brands social media strategy and that will inform ultimately what platforms that they use, but obviously there are some large players in this space as you mentioned like Facebook and Instagram and YouTube that make for a lot of really good opportunities for brands to connect with people."

Over 150 persons attended and the event ended with a networking cocktail at 4:00 pm.
