NOC Forced To Pay 15K For Cross Country Samples
posted (July 14, 2017)
Two nights ago - we told you how the Belize Cycling Federation still hadn't handed out cross country finishing prizes three whole months after the race in April. That's because the urine samples which were sent to the UCLA Lab for testing haven't been tested. And that's because the National Olympic Committee owes the lab. Now, we spoke to the President of the Olympic Committee, Hilly Martinez and he says they've run into arrears because the Cycling Federation failed to pay for the tests for the New Year's Day race as promised. The Cycling Federation says that's untrue, because the Olympic Committee agreed with KREM, who organized the race, to sponsor the samples sent from that race. What's more, the NOC says it fully paid the former National Anti Doping Representative in Belize, Patrick Henry for all of its tests. In the normal course, Henry would pass those payments unto the Olympic Committee, which is the only body that can link with the UCLA Lab. But the NOC President says he doesn't know who cycling paid, because the NOC hasn't been paid.

And while fingers are being pointed in all directions, President Martinez says that the bottom line is that the NOC will have to bear the costs and pay for the tests. That's a total of almost 15 thousand Belize dollars and Martinez says they have already started to process to make the payment.
