Keith To Court, And Then Jail For Screwdriver Attack
posted (July 18, 2017)
30 year-old Keith Middleton, a construction worker from Belize City, is on remand at the Belize Central Prison tonight. That's after he was taken before the Chief Magistrate yesterday for allegedly stabbing his ex-common-law wife in the eye with a screw driver.

According to police, the incident happened on Sunday, when Muteeshe Smith, was walking on a street in the City. She told police that she met Middleton, and they had a confrontation. That's when, according to her, Middleton pulled out the screw driver and stabbed her in the eye, the forehead, and the abdomen.

He was arrested and charged with wounding and aggravated assault, and he was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate today.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges, and told the court that it was his common-law wife who had the screw driver. He said that she suffered those injuries when they were in a scuffle on the ground.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that Middleton may attempt to attack the complainant, and after consideration, Chief Magistrate Smith upheld that objection. She remanded him until August 31.
