Kids After The Storm
posted (July 19, 2017)
After a hurricane hits, the main focus is to gather all the belongings you can salvage and try to re-build your home…pretty much your life, all over again. While it is very important that you secure food, clothing and shelter, the team at UNICEF says there is another very important element in disaster recovery that is overlooked. That is the safety and overall well-being of children. UNICEF hosted a week long training for social workers, and CEMO representatives among others to show them how to help and support children after a catastrophe, and also after personal trauma. It’s called “Return to Happinessâ€￾ and we stopped by for today’s session at the Biltmore. Two of the facilitators discussed the importance of this training.
The training ends on Friday.
