posted (July 24, 2017)
A man who was savagely beat down last Friday in Santa Elena died on Saturday. 38 year old Marlon Peters was hanging out with his co-worker and friend Errol Smith on Friday July 14th. But something went terribly wrong that Friday afternoon when Smith pounced on Peters and beat him unconscious. Courtney Weatherburne has more details on this street fight turn murder.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Marlon Peters and Errol Smith worked together at the Ministry of Works in Cayo. They were also known to be friendly with one another outside the workplace.

But last week Friday July 14th, a cool friendly outing between the two led to a deadly brawl on Maxi Street.

Voice of: Resident
"It start to the back of my house I heard cussing up so we peeped through the window and we saw the accused man leaning into his vehicle like half of his body in and the other half was out and then Mr. Peters drove off and he stopped and then the man came out and he was cussing up and Mr. Peters drove off and he came up the street and the accused walked behind, it was big cussing up on the street, took off his bag, he was angry and afterwards when he reach across here he says if you are a man just stay there and he started to curse more and then Mr. Peters got out of the vehicle and he didn't lift his hand, he did curse - nothing and then the accused just ran up in his face and started to beat him and Mr. Peters did not defend himself or anything and he stomp him and he fell in the yard and then afterwards he started to kick him up in the head. He didn't had to beat him like that. He literally took off his shirt and finish beat him (Peters) when he was on the ground."

After Errol Smith allegedly put a vicious beat down on Peters. Peters was thrown into his yard and left unconscious. The female police officer who lives here came home to find Peter's bloodied body at her entrance. She tried to revive Peters but he did not respond.

Voice of: Resident
"Even the lady tried. She went inside and took cold water and dash on his 3 times and he never responded. From here we heard the snoring, we were like he already went into a coma by then."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"So when the police officers came they rushed him to the hospital or something?"

Voice of: Resident
"Even he (Errol Smith) helped to get him (Peters) in the vehicle and he was he didn't mean for this to happen and all kinds of thing. He went through anger and he intended for that to happen."

Peters survived the beat down and was hospitalized for a week in an induced coma, but he died early Saturday morning. Now while Smith is in custody, police say they still need to investigate what caused him to explode so violently and beat Peters to death.

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"We understand that they were hanging out and drinking last Friday before the fight started?"

ASP Daniel Iche, Deputy Officer, San Ignacio
"Yes, they were socializing and some argument develop between them."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"And you are not sure what led to that argument? It was excess liquor or something between? You are not sure what caused it?"

ASP Daniel Iche, Deputy Officer, San Ignacio
"No."

The family wants answers as well but for now they can only be consoled by the life he live.

Voice of: Relative
"Marlon and I grew up, we were cousins, but we grew up like brothers. There wasn't much to him. He was a calm loving person, he love sports, basketball especially. He hangs out with his son. He has a daughter as well and I believe she is about to go to 6th form. With that said, I could always remember him as being the loving, kind person."

Peters leaves behind a wife and 2 children behind. The accused, Errol Smith turned himself in this morning in the presence of his attorney. He is in custody. We will keep following this case.
