The 2 term Mayor distinguished himself as a local Government Leader, but it appears that he doesn't intend to offer himself for re-election. Today, we asked the Prime Minister if his party would allow him to submit his candidacy late, like he did before the last election. The Prime Minister said, that from his perspective, the Belize City slate will just have to move on without him:

"We are still uncertain whether or not Mayor Bradley intends to run again."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I am not uncertain. The date for applications to have come in has gone. Mr. Bradley did not put in his name. So as far as I am concerned that's it."

"So there won't be any allowances for him to make a late entry?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"No sir, not as far as I am concern. Now, of course I am not the party, but in terms of my personal position, absolutely not and I want to be clear, I don't have any indication that Mr. Bradley intends to ask for any sort of shifting of the dates to accommodate him. No. My knowledge is that he did not put in his name, because he did not want to run again. But the two persons who have put in their names both Councilor Leslie and Councilor Willoughby have been there for donkey's years. Councilor Leslie I believe top the polls in the 2 elections I believe there were 2 that he ran. So while I cannot in any way underestimate or underrate the power of incumbency and the fact that that might have been an added advantage that Mayor Bradley would have had, I believe we are in very good shape with the two declared candidates and while the elections in Belize City will not be anything remotely approaching a cake walk, I think we can win."

Veteran Councilors Dion Leslie and Phillip Willoughby have both put in their names to offer themselves as UDP Mayor.
