Cops Get Motorbikes
posted (July 31, 2017)
Today the Belize Police Department received a donation of 6 motorcycles from businessman, Glen Wilson. Wilson, who has lived in Belize for almost 10 years, decided to donate the bikes in order to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of police patrols in rural areas. We went to the handing over ceremony where we spoke to Wilson, as well as Commander of Police Operation, ACP Edward Broaster, about the donation...

Glen Wilson - Offshore Solutions
"My partner Jordana Frutus and myself have set out this foundation whereby we are trying to help the community at large not just Belize City, not just Ladyville where we live, not just San Pedro where we have lived but the whole country. We are trying to help so that the infrastructure can work, hence the motorbikes so that they can get to areas that vehicles can't get to and I know they do foot patrols in Ladyville and frankly foot patrols here are not very affective, so the motorbikes will help them."

ACP Edward Broaster - OC, Police Operations
"This donation made by Mr. Glen Wilson, we will be posting 3 of the motorcycles in the rural eastern division area and the other 3 motorcycles will be posted in the Belmopan Cayo District area."

"How does this help in terms of mobility within the rural eastern jurisdiction?"

ACP Edward Broaster - OC, Police Operations
"It helps significantly in the rural eastern division, because there is a lot of rural areas to cover off-road terrain where vehicles cannot go. The motorcycles will be able to go, so this will come in significantly for those substations in the rural eastern division like Maskall. Bermudian Landing and other areas that they will be put. This agreement was made prior to my post Commander Operations. The public/private partnership that we have garnered over the years is only growing to be more positive and I hope to extend that public/private corporation throughout the country as Commander Operation."

The donation is valued at about $15,000.
