posted (August 1, 2017)
Police have not released any information on it, but there's a Belize City murder to report, and the victim is a Guatemalan tourist. He was robbed and murdered this weekend by an armed robber because he refused to hand over his money and possessions.

7News has learned that on Saturday, 2 Guatemalan tourists, 46 year-old Walter Lopez, and 39 year-old Josue Anitai Arizandieta, were walking on the Phillip Goldson Highway, near the Lord Ridge Cemetery. The men were staying at nearby Caribbean Hotel which is located at mile 1.5 on the Phillip Goldson High Way.

They were then held up by a dark complexioned man who was armed with a silver handgun. He pointed the gun at them, and demanded their valuables and cash. Fearing for his life, he immediately handed over one hundred US dollars, and two hundred Belize dollars.

Josue Arizandieta decided to put up a fight for his possessions. He got into a struggle with the robber and during the struggle, the gunman shot him twice in the abdomen, and once to the leg. He fell to the ground, and the robber to snatched his cell phone, and cash. Lopez believes that the robber managed to run off and escape with about $1,000 in cash.

A passerby picked up both men and rushed them to the KHMH. The doctors performed emergency surgery on Josue Arizandieta, and he clung to life in a critical state for about 48 hours, until yesterday, when he passed away at the KHMH.

No arrests have been made, but the police are investigating. At the scene of the crime, they recovered an expended shell of 9 mm bullet, and a slug.
