Will Dion Do The Media Dance Like Willoughby?
posted (August 1, 2017)
And - as he said earlier - Leslie is also trying to find a way to work with co aspirant for the UDP's mayoral nomination Phillip Willoughby. We'll have to wait and see how that goes, but in the meantime, Willoughby is basking in the light of media attention that he requests for his various initiatives. Leslie says he's seen all that, but it's just not his style:...

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Certainly you have won key endorsements within the party, but every night I see him on the news. It's like you may be winning internally, but it looks like he is winning the popularity contest, because I see him on the media so often. Does this concern you?"

Dion Leslie, UDP Mayoral Aspirant
"It concerns me about Channel 7, you should blame no one but yourself. No, Phillip is doing good work and he is still a part of the council and he is promoting good initiatives throughout the city. So you can't deny that. My work is on the ground. You all have known me for so many years, I have never been the type of person to immediately jump up in front of the camera. I've been elected to do a job. That does not mean I got elected for fame. I got elected to do a job. The people on the ground, the people on the streets, the people in the households know what I've done. I've been there for them no matter what. I don't have to call somebody every minute when I do something. That's just not been me, but I've been doing the work and if that is how councilor decides to continue his campaign, my strategy is house to house on the ground. That's where the votes are won."

Leslie has indicated that he may have a press conference later on with the councillors supporting him. He says all 8 returning councillors are on his slate.
