Steve And The Signs
posted (August 1, 2017)
So far on the news tonight, you've seen a lot from Mayor Darrell Bradley. The media caught him at the unveiling of a sign in the Belama area. It's the work of Steve Perrera, the attorney behind those now iconic Belize signs at the Baron Bliss gave site and the Seashore drive area. Now he's a put a "LOVE" sign in the Belama Phase 2 Park - and he told us why this one may be more important than the other more famous signs:...

Steve Perrera - Sign Benefactor
"We wanted to create another sign, something that would create and emanate a sense of feeling of love and happiness within the community and so what we decided, I designed this new sign for families so that persons who are in relationships, husband and wives, persons who are getting married, persons attending prom, so that they can utilize the sign and appreciate it and that image of love resonate within their photos and pictures that they want to do, but this is more of a sign that is design for families here in Belize more so than the touristic approach that the other signs were used for."

Jules Vasquez, Reporter
"Would the signs having a private sector representing basically take over the work that you have neither the money nor the imagination to do?"

Darrell Bradley - Belize City Mayor
"Most definitely I think that we are very grateful for Steve Perrera for Jose Ketz for their generosity, for their vision in terms of engaging with the city council and really providing a sense of pride and purpose to public spaces. You rightly pointed out that the city council sometimes lacks the imagination and the vision and the foresight and definitely we lack the financial resources to invest in something like this so the fact that private sector individuals like Mr. Perrera and like Mr. Ketz from Creative Marketing would come out with their dollars and their ingenuity and really their foresight to say that we are going to invest in uplifting public spaces. I think that it is a huge blessing for our city, you have the Belize sign which of course encourages patriotism and nationalism but when you talk about love and the concept of love and the fact that we need to show more love to our members of our community I think that it's a perfect message."

Pererra teamed up with Creative Marketing to construct the sign.
