PRIDE is a gay rights observance celebrated in major cities throughout the world. And starting this weekend it's coming to Belize. UNIBAM, along with partner organizations such as Our Circle and PETAL, will be hosting an official PRIDE Week. Activities aimed at promoting awareness and acceptance will be hosted throughout the country. "I'll start by saying this, what inspired the idea of a pride week? It was a lot of dialogue but mainly our circle suggestion that August 10th 2016 was an historical day not only for the LGBT community but also for our history as Belizeans that a marginalize group finally got their rights acknowledged in court, more precisely if our community is to ever be inspired to defend the indignities and violence that they experience as individuals and a citizen, then we need to then have something to hold on to. So pride week is about building the moral of our community and building the principle or advancing the idea the inclusiveness and respecting diversity matters in our citizenry as Belizeans."

"We were also be launching a document that we have been working with under our strengthening LGBT families project. This is a guide book which brings into one concise document, all the procedures and policies that are in place to protect our same sex families as well as the children or family members which we have within our family."
