Tropic Air Drops Flights Due To High GOB Taxes
posted (August 4, 2017)
In January, we took you to Chetumal for the new flight that Tropic Air established from the PGIA. Well, the company is announcing that this and 2 other flights are being suspended for now because the airline isn't making any money off them.

In all, the flights to Chetumal Mexico, Merida, Mexico, and San Pedro Sula, Honduras are being suspended, after September second, 2017.

In press release sent yesterday, Tropic Air's CEO, Steve Schulte says, quote, "Our decision...comes after an in-depth analysis of their performance over the last four months, including the very measurable effects of the May 1st increase in departure taxes. There is no clear path to sustainably serving these markets under current economic and regulatory conditions...It is most unfortunate for those who have come to depend on these regional links, that in the end, we were unable to sustain the growing losses".

Tropic Air has been doing the San Pedro Sula route for 5 years now. The Merida flight started 3 years ago, while Chetumal began earlier this year. Passengers with ticketed reservations for these flights will be contacted, and arrangements will made for their travel to be completed, or for refunds to be issued.
