"HelpAge Belize is certainly happy to have a physiotherapist working with us, for the past 3 years we have been lobbying with the Ministry of Health and now it has come to fruition. The physiotherapy services is certainly a needed one, reason being we have persons are getting older they experience certain health conditions, certain challenges and one has to do with mobility, movement you know the slow movement and a service that the physiotherapist can provide is to help our elderly retain their level of independence through exercise, strengthening of the muscles. We have several conditions that affects older persons. We are looking at the arthritis where her services will be well utilized, we have clients who have experienced stroke, her services are also needed, we have clients who may have Alzheimer's challenges we have clients who are breast cancer survivors and they can do the various forms of therapy. We also look at our older person are subject to falls, we can do fall prevention sessions, assessing the home and in the event there is a fall there is therapy to help the person whether it is the arm, whether it is the hips ,whether it is the leg so physiotherapy can offer a wide range of services. We will utilize the physiotherapist within the Sister Cecilia home, we want to create a physical activity program, excreting using equipment, exercising using music."
