Police Speak on Pierced Window At Agric Ministry
posted (August 11, 2017)
Did someone shoot at the Ministry of Agriculture? Was some vandal trying to send a message? And should employees there feel at risk?

Those are the questions that have been at play in the public discourse after what looks like a bullet hole was seen in a glass window at the Ministry on Queen Elizabeth Avenue in Belmopan town.

Today, the commander of the Belmopan police spoke about what they know so far:...

Sr. Sup. Howell Gillet - OC, Belmopan
"What we know so far is that there is a piercing in the glass that faces the Queen Elizabeth Boulevard. We are not certain, so I cannot say with certainty that it was gunshot or anything that caused it. We've done swabbing of the hole to see and that will be sent to the forensic laboratory for testing. There is a very small piercing, but what amazes us is that there was no marking anywhere else in the building. So it could be a number of things, but I don't want to speculate. We are very hopeful that the forensic testing will tell us what actually pierced the door."

"Hearing the interviews done, I am convinced that no one is certain about when that piercing was caused. Could have been Monday by someone and it could have been even before, but we believe it was sometime maybe over the weekend or sometime during this week. But we've interviewed the security guards who are there and I want to tell you that they have security guards 24 hours."

"We've interviewed the night security guards and they are saying that no gunshot was heard during their tour of duty. So it makes us want to form an opinion, but as I said earlier we have to wait on the forensic results before we can say clearly if it was a stone that was thrown there or it was in deed a bullet that pierce the glass."

"If I am to give an opinion, it would be where did the bullet ended up. It surely didn't pierced any part of the building and there was no found inside the building. We even went as far as took a metal detector to see if there was anything metallic to be found and the results were negative."

There's no timeline set for the analysis and return of those forensic results.

Un-named police sources have told PLUSTV that it is a bullet hole from a small caliber weapon.
