posted (August 14, 2017)
And there was another hit and run but this time in the neighboring village of St. Matthews - just 6 miles away. It happened on Thursday night. Father of 11, Juan Chavin was riding home after he had been hanging out friends. But he was knocked down between miles 37 and 38 on the Western Highway. His son rushed over after he got the call, only to see his 57 year old father splayed on the road - gasping for air. The 57 year old lived for three days, but cumber to his injuries yesterday. We spoke to his son about this tragedy today.

Oseas Chavin, Son of Deceased
"I went from here to the village and I saw my dad laying on the ground. A car knocked him down, I didn't see it, but they told me he was laying on the ground."

"So this happened around Thursday night at 9pm-10pm? So you went out there and what did you see? What state was your dad in?"

Oseas Chavin, Son of Deceased
"Well the bike was far from him and his shoes were far. He was breathing fast, his head was bleeding. After that the police came and another guy who I work with was holding his head to stop the bleeding."

Reporter
"When was the last time you spoke with him or saw him that Thursday? Did he mentioned where he was going or do you know where he was coming from?"

Oseas Chavin, Son of Deceased
"No, because yesterday I was at work. So from maybe in the evening he went to the village. I didn't see him from Wednesday."

"He was a very good dad I can say and he was close to us. In the village everybody knows his as a good person, not in trouble with anyone. If you asks anyone, he was a good guy, but thing happened. We don't know when it will happen to you. It's sad to see my father laying down and the guy (the one who knocked him down), maybe God will see what he does with him in the future."

Chavin died yesterday. He leaves behind 11 kids and 3 grandkids.
