Cops Catch Caribbean Tyres Safe-Cracker
posted (August 14, 2017)
Police have moved quickly to crack the case of a big money burglary - after a thief cracked the safe at Caribbean Tires in Spanish Lookout.

Sometime between 6:15 on Friday night and 7:15 on Saturday morning, a man wearing a cap pulled low over his face, wrenched off the door of the iron safe, and stole 20 thousand US dollars and five thousand Belize dollars.

But, by this evening, San Ignacio police had arrested the culprit and recovered the money. The San Ignacio Officer commanding told us more via phone a short while ago:..

Supt. Richard Rosado, OC - Cayo Police
"On Saturday 12th August, 2017 about 7am, San Ignacio received information of burglary at a business establishment in Spanish Lookout, where a substantial amount of money were stolen and subsequently recovered today. We have one person detained for questioning and the investigation continues."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"We received reports saying that your main suspect is an employee. Is that correct?"

Supt. Richard Rosado, OC - Cayo Police
"We have one person detained for questioning. A substantial amount of money were recovered if not all and through the assistance of the community."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Are you able to say where this arrest was made? Was it in Spanish Lookout or other area in the Cayo District?"

Supt. Richard Rosado, OC - Cayo Police
"It was in Billy White. The money and the suspect was detained in Billy White Village. The feeling I cannot expressed, especially knowing that the community supports you and the calls that keep coming in and we are truly happy for them. It's rare that you hear a burglary case and all the monies recovered."

The alleged culprit - who is reported to be an employee - will be arraigned tomorrow, but more arrests may follow.
