PSU Pres Eldred Neal Re-Instated For a Week
posted (August 14, 2017)
He may only have a few more days left in the job - but Eldred Neal has been reinstated as president of the PSU. A release from the PSU says that at a Special Meeting on Saturday Neal apologized for, quote, "uttering those discriminatory words against the Garifuna people of this country and members of the council of management."

So, with that, the council of management agreed to lift his suspension, but on the condition that he does not char the union's Annual General Meeting which will be held this Saturday. A new president will be elected at that meeting.

Solicitor General Nigel Hawke mediated the special meeting which ends with a resolution to an issue that had been festering since May. That's when a recording emerged where Neal was heard making prejudiced remarks against Garinagu in the senior ranks of the public service ranks and within the union.

The Council of Management suspended Neal - without a hearing - on May 19th, and the issue has been festering since then. The union now heads into its AGM with significant internal divisions still prominent - according to insiders.
