AG and Human Dev. Minister In DC To Improve Belize’s Human Trafficking Rating

In the US State Department's Trafficking Persons Report, Belize was classified as a tier 3 country, one of the two worst trafficking offenders in the entire western Hemisphere - according to the USA. So, it's making news tonight that representatives of the Belize Government are in Washington DC for the US State Department's Roundtable of Human Trafficking Seminar.

Human Development Minister Anthony "Boots" Martinez" and Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte met with Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy US Attorney General from the Department of Justice. A press release from the Government of Belize says that Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, quote, "conveyed the United States' commitment to strengthen ties with Belize to further address human trafficking," end quote, while Hon. Peyrefitte reported on the measures Belize has implemented to thwart human trafficking and prosecute offenders.

So far, Martinez and Peyrefitte have met with representatives of the Department Justice and Diplomatic Security, and they are scheduled to meet with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Trafficking in Persons Office of the US State Department.
