No final Plan Yet For Carnival
posted (August 16, 2017)

Faber also donned his hat as Minister of Culture and spoke about the Carnival route.  He is chair of the September Celebration Committee, and we asked him about the proposed change of route for Carnival 2017.   As we’ve reported, authorities want to change the route because it blocks access to both major highways and to the KHMH, which is the national referral hospital.

Faber says he sees the logic of that argument, but he would not support taking the Carnival from the Southside - mainly his Collet division:…

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister
"The problem is that the suggestions that came up boxes out the Southside, most of the suggestion and I will tell you while I've not heard a final recommendation coming if it is that I have the final say, my position is the Southside must be included in the carnival and so while I'm not absolutely sure it is my decision only to make and it will be my final decision. Belizeans must know that my position is the Southside must be included and I will try my best to find a way to ensure that is the case and in fact I was aware when they did the testing and I know for certain that it was successful, the big trucks were able to take the lanes and so on but I don't know after that testing. What the carnival committee and the wider September celebrations committee may be putting as their final recommendation so I'm looking forward to hearing about that."

We are told a final decision will soon be announced.  The Carnival is set for September 9th.
