Wilfred Not Worried About CCJ
posted (August 16, 2017)

And finally tonight, we have a comment from Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington on the Progresso Heights case where he was being sued by his former business partners in a real estate development - a case that went all the way to the CCJ.  It's a private transaction but he's a public figure and on July 21st. the CCJ ordered that Elrington and his law firm, Pitts & Elrington, return all the conveyancing documents Progresso Heights Ltd sent from Florida to the law firm between September 2009 and June 2010, together with title certificates that had been issued in respect of eight of those documents. The Court gave Elrington and his firm 30 days from the date of the July 21st. hearing to deliver to Progresso the relevant documents.  Today, Elrington said he didn't want to discuss the case as a private matter, but seemed in no hurry to produce any land documents:…

Hon. Wilfred Elrington - Foreign Minister
"Let me assure that is a completely and totally private issue between myself and Progresso Heights which is a company that I formed and in fact which I own 20%. That's a private matter really to my mind should not even be discussed publicly because it is still ongoing, litigation is still in process so it's not a matter I care to discuss, the details are already out but it's still what we lawyers say sub judice and we should not talking about it."

Reporter
"You're taking a different approach because previously you did speak about it and the question is whether you will be able to find those papers or not."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington
"No, I don't have the papers, I told them I don't have the papers and I will not be able to find them if I don't have them, you can't get what you don't have but I'm saying it's not an issue, for me it is not an issue. It's a private issue, it is not a public issue and the matter is still before the court."

30 Calendar days form July 21st would be August 20th.  30 weekdays would bring that date to September first.  The court says, quote, "the parties may apply to the Court to resolve any further dispute that may arise in relation to the order of the Court after the expiration of this time."
