Hon. Heredia Dodgy on BAA Issue
posted (August 23, 2017)
Heredia was not so forthcoming on the situation with the Belize Airports Authority. There are credible and consistent reports of mismanagement of funds at that statutory body which falls under Heredia's ministry. Today when the media asked him about it, first, he said the Prime Minister had already addressed the issue - which he had not, not in any substantial way at least - and then he said some people may or may not be moving on:...

Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation
"We had a consultant that had done a job for the Belize Airport Authority about 2-3 years ago and we are now doing strategic changes that will be made. They might be some, 1 or 2 that might have to go. Others that will be coming in. I believe there are 2 that are in already. But at some point also I have the job every year to appoint a new board if I so wish. If I want any of them to remain, that is up to me and that is what I believe that at the end of the year most of them have been serving for 2 years now. So I am sure that there will be some changes in the board also. Probably the general manager, I don't know up to now if he will leave, but there can be that possibility."

"The chairman has resigned?"

Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation
"Not up until now. He might, but until now he still remains."

Reporter
"Reports are also circulating that he may resign because of expenditures that he made."

Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation
"There is nothing in the audit that says that there is any corruption involved."
