Education Minister Faber Tells Parents To Reject Extra Fees
posted (August 23, 2017)
School is about to start again and many parents are ensuring that their children have all the supplies needed. But, some government schools are taking advantage of parents and charging them extra on items like supplies and even school fees. It's against the rules and Deputy Prime Minister Faber recently posted don his Facebook page, quote, "This is way past the mark! Stop the fleecing of students and parents! Parents shouldn't tolerate anything like this from schools! Please report to your nearest District Education Center!"

Last week he told us why he thinks it's unacceptable:

Hon. Patrick Faber, Deputy Prime Minister
"The schools are allowed to charge fees as well and I have seen some very very ridiculous fees being charged and I wish to say that the rules are very clear. The education act are very clear in terms of what can be charged at a school and how much and once changes are being made. I have seen schools change fees without consulting the ministry of education."

So, taking his advice, if this is happening to you or someone you know, do report it to your District Education Center.
