Fourth City Murder In A Week
posted (August 24, 2017)
Belize City has been relatively quiet since April, after former Southside Commander ACP Chester Williams facilitated a citywide gang truce, but this month has seen a sharp spike in murders.

In August alone, seven people have been murdered in the city, four of them killed just this week!

The latest in the string of violence occurred at around 4:30 this afternoon when a gunman shot up the area surrounding the Conch Shell Bay Fish Market. In an attempt to escape the gun fire, reports say Windell Gibson and Keron Santos ran over to Lindo's Alley, but were followed by the assailant, who fired at least eight more shots at the pair. Both men were shot and Gibson succumbed to his injuries not long after. Santos is currently in critical condition. It is still unknown if Gibson and Santos were the intended targets since the fish market is a heavily trafficked area, and it was crowded at the time of the incident.

This Lindo's Alley conch Shell Bay Area was the scene of a rash of gang related murders at the start of this year.

Reports to 7News are that the new Southside Commander Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal has disbanded the Southside Strike Team which would usually patrol these areas and replaced them with the Special Assignment Team he brought from Belmopan.
