Leslie Ready For Sunday Convention
posted (August 24, 2017)
In the run-up to the convention, Leslie has been working on several projects to keep himself visible in the community. But for his opponent Phillip Willoughby, visibility is business as usual. Seems like he's on the news just about every other day - and even though he is the underdog in Sunday's convention with less money and less support from his political colleagues, Willoughby's high public profile has made him a kind of dark horse. But Leslie is still the favorite to win, and the choice of his party. We asked him about the road ahead.

Sahar Vasquez, reporter
"Your convention is coming up on Sunday how are you feeling going into this race?

Dion Leslie, Mayoral Candidate
"Well I feel very confident. I have been walking the streets for the past month and a half meeting people, getting to know more people, reuniting with old friends, and listening to their concerns and you know what they want to do where they want their city to go and it has been very encouraging. In fact, the vision that we have put forward is a vision that came from the people that we met over the past month and after that, we came together and put it on paper and said this is the vision we want to push forward."

"It's a lot of work um but the response has been great and come Sunday I invite everyone out to the convention at ITVET from ten to five. It is an open convention. I must state that. You must just bring an ID. It doesn't matter, it doesn't have to be your voter's ID, any id you can bring."

"Vote for myself and my entire team. We want to be the next representation. We want to be the ones to carry on the legacy that Darrel will leave but at the same time take our own path and making history with ourselves."

Sahar Vasquez, reporter
"Your contender is playing a very strong game does this scare you in any way that he may defeat you?"

Dion Leslie
"When you get into any election or any race or so it stays in the back of your mind but how I work. I always work giving it my all. I kinda work as if I am always playing from behind cause when you think you got it you may get complacent and comfortable and you may start to relax a little bit. I have walked every single day minimum of three hours even on Sundays. I have been out visiting people so I have put in the work with politics to me elections are won on the ground and elections are won on election day."

"This what we are campaigning on. We are showing you that we can do it and we are telling you we will do it once we get into office."

7NEws will have coverage of Sunday's convention.
