We note that his sister told us Gilroy Martinez was going to see the mother of the men who threatened him, while his wife says he was going to return a saw, but Vidal confirms that he was going to the residence of the man who tried to kill him, and when he left, they did kill him.
This afternoon Senior Superintendent Vidal said that the murder seems to be gang related. Here is more of what he had to say.

"In regards to Mr. Martinez's demise um we have two persons in custody at this time and we are conducting the investigation in retaliation to that matter."
"He got injuries to his head and there may have been two wounds to his head, gunshot wounds."

"The two person detained ate they acquaintances of Mr. Martinez? Are they friends?"

"Not necessarily."

"Of the same neighborhood?"

"Not quite."

"Is there anything to show, because the common-law-wife mentioned that he was threatened? Is there anything to show that that threat that they made just a couple of days ago has anything to do with this murder?"

"We understand there was some altercation last night as a matter of fact leading to certain events this morning."

"Is this gang related?"

"I would say that it is. Well I am not sure if it was physical altercation but there was an incident between the two groups."
Over the past few years, there have been at least half a dozen murders in this area, due to rival gangs living in close proximity to each other.
