Las Flores Says No To Belmopan Mayor
posted (September 5, 2017)
Yesterday we told you about the dispute at St. Michael Roman Catholic School in LAs Flores Village, Belmopan. The community was in an uproar because they accuse the mayor of allowing a private landowner to purchase land that the school had been tending for years, in the hopes that it could use the space for expansion.

Mayor Khalid Belisle sprang into action and proposed two alternative parcels of land to Father Jordan Gongora of the Belmopan Catholic Mission. He also made other suggestions to soothe things over with the catholic mission. And with that the mayor said that an amicable and mutually beneficial solution had been arrived at. End of story, right?

Not so fast!

Today, the Las Flores Community put out its own press release saying they rejects the agreement made by Father Jordan Gongora.

The statement adds, quote, "The community is appalled that such agreement was reach without their consent and that the agreement is totally contrary to what the community expressed they wanted at the meeting on September 3rd."

It goes unto say, quote:

"The community insists that the parcels sold to Amy Chen to BE RETURNED to the school and NOT be exchanged for the Softball and Futsal Fields that have been used by Las Flores youth since the inception of Las Flores.

The Community hereby expresses their discontent and utterly rejects such agreement."

Today the Mayor would only say he will continue the dialogue. We'll keep following it.
