FFB, Deviling The Details
posted (September 5, 2017)
Last night, we showed you the extraordinary congress that the executive of the Football Federation of Belize hosted on Saturday afternoon. They were trying to take care of some business that was left untouched after the failed ordinary congress in July.

Some of the financial matters were addressed, but one element which caught our attention was the 2017 budget. It's for 1.4 million dollars in this fiscal year, and of that 1.4, FIFA provides 1 million dollars in funding to the FFB. Of that, the FFB is going to spend $848,000 or 63% on administrative costs of running the FFB offices.

That looks rather high, and so we asked the Acting President about it:

Marlon Kuylen - Acting President, FFB
"The budget was approved with conditions that in future the affiliates have more say or a hand in what is or how the budget is produced. So that was approved with the conditions that on a monthly basis the affiliates received financial reports from the federation and that we provide a list of the salaries and stipends that make up the administration cost of the budget."

"The operational cost makes up 63% of the entire budget for FFB. Isn't that a rather concerning a large number sir, since majority of the funding should ideally be going towards the sport itself."

Marlon Kuylen - Acting President, FFB
"When we get our funding, they are earmarked. So the FFB whilst yes to a certain extent it is high - the percentage that is used for administration of salaries and stipends whatever. The running of a federation is labor intensive and it increases when we have national team for instance, in camp, because then we have to hire a number of coaches, doctors and so forth. But it is justifiable, but of course like in any other organization we are looking at ways to streamline and more than just having to spend that much money on administration that it is being spent on people that are well qualified, because for instance you might have two persons doing the job of one and so forth. But yes the running of a federation is very labor intensive and in fact the financial report, the report is saying that we need more staff for our accounting."

The next biggest portion of the budget is just over 119,000 which will go to youth football, then $101,000 which goes to training, and $100,000, which goes towards women football.
