Bar Association Rejects PM’s Planned Appointee to Appeal Court
posted (September 6, 2017)
Last week we told you about Franz Park - the Miami based attorney who the Prime Minister wishes to appoint to the court of appeal. Well, the Bar Association today sent out a release saying that he does not meet the requirements for appointment under the constitution, and the bar has voted against his appointment at a meeting last night. The Leader of the Opposition also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister earlier this week saying he objects:...

Hon. John Briceno- Leader of the Opposition
"We wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on Monday saying that we see nothing, nothing his CV and the Prime Minister refused to give me any new evidence as to why Mr. Park supposed to be appointed in the Court of Appeals. I see something that is very troubling and Belizeans need to take a look at what is happening we need to see the appointments that are being made at the Magistrates level, we need to see the appointments that are being made at the Supreme Court and we need to see the appointments that are being made at the Court of Appeals. I'm not casting any aspersions to anyone but we need to see what is happening there."

The Bar Association has written saying it stands ready to enable with the government and the opposition on the issue. The Prime Minister does not have to take the advice of the Bar and he only has to consult the leader of the opposition, which means to tell him of the appointment.
