More Mas Camp Madness
posted (September 8, 2017)
All this week we've been taking you inside the Carnival Mas Camps. Its an integral part of the Carnival judging and the bands have to show organization, and strong spirit from their band members.

Here's what the last four bands showed us, and the judges.

Nadia Avila, Mahogany Masqueraders
"The costumes they are very detailed and difficult to make sometimes it's good to go outside of the box so I have to bring out things that would suit the judge so the kids and the general; public and I must say it was difficult but due to the assistance from my friend Ms. Jackie my other half Mr. Mcoy, Ms Julie and the kids of course. The kids gave me hope."

"I incorporated culture because culture is also part of our calendar. Belize is a beautiful country we have different ethnic groups and I said you know why can't I show case who I am in Carnival manner. It was difficult because I had to the head piece out of bottles so they won't fall. Yes it was difficult and I incorporated a little bit of shaka on the back packs so you could hear in case my music goes you can hear some sort of music, but my colors of my flag signifies hope right signify struggle, peace the yellow black and white so I am happy to be able to do that in a carnival matter."

Marina Welcome, Jump Street Posey
"Carnival Mix up coming down the road right and the aim I aiming for is first place. Me and my 65 revelers."

"The first section is jazz. Jazz already ate up king and queen so jazz is coming now with ocean friends. You know how the kids love ocean friends you know it is a story telling tale on cartoon then we have Sheera. Sheera is the Goddess of the jungle. You can't go around Belize without the jungle and then the 3rd section is all about bacchanal come Saturday the spirit of Bacchanal will rise."

Shadine Ottley, Fantasy Explosion
"Listen this is months of planning. This is our third year so a mass camp like this is something special to us we put all the logistics together and we block the entire block off and we start from the morning."

"Our theme for this year is to indulge in Belize. Enjoy the pleasures of Belize. Our first section depicts the jungle floor what lies beneath the jungle floor. Our rain and moon Goddess called queen Ixchell. Followed by monumental souls of Mayas that has history and past it may thrill the eyes with beauty but there is a mass. Our second section depicts the wild led by kind Balon. He is the king of the wild. The cheetah prints represent the wild cat. That there are several species of wild cat in our country. We basically went with scenery our green lizard, iguanas, Scarlett red macaw. Those are the colors we went with, with the second section. Third section Emerald waters. Haven't you traveled in Belize whether it is local or international and the pilot says ten minutes to land in Belize look out and what you see our beautiful emerald waters. We have decided to go traditional. Maybe we can relate to the judges in this way."

Audrey Bradley, Soca Moca
"First of all we haven't placed in five years so I feel she comes first I love it and my king. I see a little struggle in him so I think he still did well. I love my 3rd and 2nd for King and Queen. I think we did well."

The highly anticipated Carnival takes place tomorrow at 1pm - coverage with Wilson Grinage and Jeannie Brooks begins at NOON on Channel 7.
