Interconnection of Agencies Is the Future
posted (September 13, 2017)
That National Identification System is still in its early phases, and so, these departments are looking at a more immediate fix. Representatives in charge of Vital Stats, Social Security, Immigration and Elections and Boundaries have met to discuss interconnectivity of all of their databases. That would allow for the triple checking of the identities of persons applying for documents from each these separate entities. The Director told the Senate Committee that she hopes that this interconnection will take place very soon:

Diana Locke - Director of Immigration
"Since my arrival at the department I have had the opportunity to sit in a meeting with the registrar general, representatives from Social Security and from Election and Boundaries where we have discuss the challenges that we all faced - where documents originate from, what are the things that we are seeing. At the department we have the passport section maintains a file of all the documents that we come across that we have concerns about. We have a connection with the Vital Stats where, not an electronic connection, but we have the option to pick up the phone and verify things we them if we have doubts with anything. The same applies with Social Security and the same applies to Election and Boundaries. So we are at least using wherever there is a case for doubt, we are using those connections that we have made to check and verify."

"There is a need for us to have something formal where we can access the documents. It's my hope that we can do memorandum of understanding with the Vital Stats that we would be able to have at least one person have access to their system to be able to view. Similarly with Social Security and with Election and Boundaries. These are things that we are trying to work on."
