Sweet Pain Band Stand Up For Stand Creek Queen
posted (September 13, 2017)
The popular Punta Rock party band "Sweet Pain" has a viral hit on their hands with their new song, named "Goh Frahn Ya". It talks about the now legendary mix-up over the two Queens of the Bay on Tenth Day - one of whom just happens to come from Sweet Pain's hometown of Dangriga.

The catchy tune has the currency of Calypso music - which - decades ago - used to lampoon the news of the day - mixed with the relentless rhythm of Punta.

And, it all comes at the expense of Chairperson, or maybe that's former chairperson, of the Queen of the Bay Committee Zenaida Moya.

Vida - one of the leader singers for Sweet Pain told us that he came up with the song as he watched the debacle of the double crowning on TV on the Tenth morning. By the time the tenth parade came to his hometown of Dangriga in the afternoon, he debuted the song. He told us more via phone today - but first, here's a few seconds of the song, if you haven't heard it yet.

And while Sweet Pain's Queen, Aaliyah Ysaguirre holds the national crown, Orange Walk's Esmeralda Cal - is, so to speak, The Queen In the North. She was crowned on Sunday afternoon in Orange Walk - and not with a three dollar wand from Simon Quan, along with a 5 dollar crown from Party Center, thrown in with two yards of red cloth from Mikado, but with a proper regal getup, including a flowing cape and a glittering crown. We wait to hear Super Furia's comeback track in defense of their northern queen.
