What Community Wants From Cops
posted (September 13, 2017)
This afternoon the police conducted another meet and greet in the Precinct 1 and Precinct 4 areas. While they were touring the precinct 1 areas we got some insight on the meet and greet from Deputy Division Commander for the south of Belize City, police Superintendent Daniel Arzu along with a resident.

Supt., Daniel Arzu - Deputy Division Commander
"We are focusing on the entire area behind the Raccoon Street Police Station and so far, as what we would normally expect, the residents are quite cooperative with us and we are grateful for how they receive us because there is this need to dialogue and to foster the relationship between the police and the community and that is practically what we are doing this afternoon. What we are doing here is to sensitize the residents to find out from them how best they can give us some suggestions as to how we carry out our functions and that's something that we are quite receptive of because the reality is we want to bridge the gap and we also want to reduce crime at all costs and part of our tool is the community in these crime fighting measures. The people whom we have spoken with, they are telling us, look in this area we are quite infested with drugs and this is how it happens and it's for the police now to formulate the strategy how we move in and eradicate the drug activities within this neighborhood."

Resident
"I think they are doing a good job but what I would like for them to do is for them to have more foot police on the street so that it could calm down the situation of what's going on in our beautiful country of Belize"

Reporter
"Do you think this is a good step the police are taking coming and visiting you guys about what you think the problems are, what you want more of?"

Resident
"Yes, I think it is a good idea but, I mean, we gotta start this thing at home because at home is the best place to start it. If we wait for police to come to your home, you know, it's good but it's better to start at home."

The police toured Gibnut Street, Iguana Street and surrounding streets in precinct 1 as well as TV Ramos Street, George Arthurs Street and surrounding streets in precinct 2.
