Hon. Aldo Says Inquiry’s Work Soon Finished
posted (September 14, 2017)
So, after yesterday's senate hearings, we took the opportunity to question the Chairman, Aldo Salazar, about the Prime Minister's decision that he will not provide the Senate Select Committee with anymore funding, if their work continue past November.

The Government has provided 2 more disbursements which will cover all of the Committee's expenses for the next 2 to 3 months, and after that, they will get no more money.

We've told you how the Belize National Teachers Union is not happy about that, and so, we asked the Chairman what he thinks of the Prime Minister's position. Not surprisingly, he's in support of it. We've been telling you for months now that Chairman Salazar was ready to end the Hearings, believing that it has concluded its work.

So, when we asked him about, he said that 2 or 3 months is more than adequate time for the Committee to finish up whatever work the other members believe is outstanding:

Hon. Aldo Salazar - Chairman, Senate Select Committee
"For me, yes, I think that it will be enough. I believe we have covered about 3 months more. We've done about 8 months. That leaves us with about a year's worth of work. So, I feel that that is adequate. As far as I am concerned."

Hipolito Novelo - Love News
"Has the Committee discussed the Prime Minister's letter?"

Hon. Aldo Salazar
"Yes, the Committee has discussed the letter."

Hipolito Novelo
"What was the positions of the other Committee members?"

Hon. Aldo Salazar
"Well, I am not at liberty to discuss what the views are in terms of the deliberation, but I can speak to my view. I think that the Prime Minister is perfectly entitled to his view. He feels that we've had - well, from what I've gathered from the letter - I mean, we don't have to argue about everything in Belize, you know. The Prime Minister is free to express and hold the view that he feels we've had ample time, and we've been allocated adequate resources. And he feels that that should be sufficient. Why - we don't have to quarrel with him about that. It's his view; he's entitled to that. It's not an unreasonable view. We've been at this for quite some time. I certainly share that view as well, with him. We've had significant amount of time to deliberate on this. I've said from the very beginning, I feel that we should be looking to wrap up, and that adequate time has been allocated."
