The I AM BELIZE Scholarship Program has been running for 7 years now, and for this school current year, Restore Belize has awarded 36 high school students with full scholarships.
Without this scholarship, they wouldn't have been able to afford to attend classes.
But, the scholarship program goes beyond simply paying the bills. The folks at Restore Belize provide the recipients with a mentorship program all the way to the end of 4th form, when they graduate.
7News stopped by the Restore Belize office to meet a few of this year's recipients:
The scholarships are funded through donor partnerships with the Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust, BEL, BWSL, Atlantic Bank, Atlantic Insurance, and the Development Finance Cooperation. The program has allowed for 50 students to graduate as of 2017.
15 of the 36 students being funded are new scholarship recipients. 21 are returning students.
