Opposition Leader: What Happens At Tower Hill, Stays At Tower Hill
posted (September 19, 2017)
Opposition Leader John Briceno has had 2 weeks to reflect on the confrontation with police at the Tower Hill Bridge in Orange Walk, and it appears that the Opposition Leader, John Briceño, will let the matter rest. Today, we met him at the annual Wreath Laying Ceremony for National Hero George Price, and we asked if he will sue the the police for realizing tear gas and clubs without first reading the riot act.

That's after Briceno and his supporters segued from an anti-corruption protest and rally in Orange Walk town to block the Tower Hill Bridge.

Well, today, the Opposition Leader said that he's willing to call it even because his party's point has been made. Here's how he explained it:

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the opposition
"Well, we want to put on record that they never read the riot act. They never informed us that they were going to throw tear gas unto innocent bystanders, and it affected people in their homes and in their stores. And I think that the police acted recklessly, and I would not be surprised if they were not acting on the guidance and advice of the political directorate. Whether or not I am going to take a case again the police, or not, I am not even sure if it's worth it. I think what is important is for us to make our point that the people of this country, they've had enough of the rape and the pillaging of our natural resources, of the abuse of the Government resources. About almost 450 million dollars of Petrocaribe, 600 million dollars from petroleum. They've borrowed about another billion dollars, and our debt continues to go up. It's over 3 billion dollars now, and what do we have to show?"
