Opposition Leader Says He Would Not Sit With Those Who Tear-Gassed Him
posted (September 19, 2017)
And the Opposition Leader says that after he got tear gassed on that Wednesday, he couldn't couldn't bring himself to come out and be in the company of the UDP Government officials at the Sunday 10th Ceremonies four days later. He bristled when we ask him about his noticeable absence in Memorial Park for the official ceremonies:

Daniel Ortiz, reporter
"Any specific reason why you were absent from the 10th Celebration?"

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the opposition
"You expected me to sit down beside these people and smile after they have already thrown tear gas on top of me? When they threw a tear gas, and then, the police actually kicked that can right between my legs, when I was giving an interview, when I already left from there where they told us to leave, because they were using tear gas and I didn't want to get hurt. You want me to sit there and smile with them when I saw how they just picked up Marisol and just threw her like a sack of potatoes on the ground? They didn't pick up Jules, because they can't pick him up. But, they went to pick up Marisol. They are even sexist in their behavior. They will go and chance who they could. They never gone after Sanchez from Centaur, because he is a big man, but Marisol, oh yes, and we'll throw her on the ground. And, you want me to sit there and smile with them?"

Less noted was the absence of Catholic Bishop Lawrence Nicascio - who was supposed to give the invocation but was a no show.
