L.O.O. Says Gloves Are Off On Independence Day
posted (September 19, 2017)
But, Opposition Leader John Briceño says that he certainly isn't going to miss the Independence Day Celebrations in Belmopan on Thursday. That's because he will take the opportunity to blast the Barrow Administration for every embarrassing moment that has been exposed the evening news over the last few months. Now, the Independence Day speech is usually observed as an opportunity for unity, not political divisiveness. But, this morning, Briceno told us that on Thursday, the gloves come off:

"Can you give us an insight as to the premise of your speech, coming up? I think Belizeans would like to know."

Hon. John Briceno - Leader of the Opposition
"Well, I don't think it's going to be on a lighter note because it is a serious matter that we are facing right now, that this government has become the very same thing that they condemned, coming into 2008. They Prime Minister was the one who, every Independence Day, in his speech as the Leader of the Opposition, attacked our prime minister, attacked our government, making all kinds of claims about the issues of corruption and incompetence, and now here we fast forward to 9 years later, 2017. We have the most corrupt government ever, this country has ever seen, the most incompetent government that we have ever seen, where Ministers after Ministers are being implicated and being called out as being corrupt, and the Prime Minister refuses to act."
