L.O.O. Supports Bar Assoc. In Position on CJ
posted (September 19, 2017)
And while the Opposition Leader was hyper-critical of the Barrow Administration, he spoke more carefully when he commented on the Bar Association's strong stance against the Chief Justice.

As we told you, the Bar, at their last Friday meeting, passed a resolution to call for the Chief Justice's removal if he fails to deliver judgements on a schedule he put out last week.

Briceno told us that he supports that position:

Hon. John Briceno - Leader of the Opposition
"I have a great respect for the Chief Justice, and I think that he is an honorable man, but the reality is that there are these judgments that have been outstanding for so long. I am one of the victims - or my company is one of the victims, Centaur, when Gaspar Vega also accused us - wrongly so that we aired the event that happened in Orange Walk Town, and we've been waiting for that judgment. In a democracy, we have this saying that 'Justice delayed is justice denied.' And while the attorneys have an obligation, but so do the judges, including the Chief Justice to produce judgments in a timely fashion. And timely could be subjective, but when you look at cases that are 2 years, 3 years, and even 5 years from not getting a judgment, I think that is a bit too long. Even the Caribbean Court of Justice have said that the courts in the region need to be able to try to produce their judgments as quickly as possible. So, I am appealing to the Chief Justice to help us, first to put this work behind us, and to produce his judgments, as quickly as humanely possible. But, I do support the Bar Association's plea to the Chief Justice to produce his judgments as quickly as possible."

The judgements are pending between two and five years. Two are scheduled to be delivered on Friday the 22nd. September.
