Preventing Infection Amongst The Health Experts

Today was the second day of a two-day health workshop at the Biltmore in Belize city.The workshop is about preventing the spread of communicable diseases amongst healthcare professionals. This morning found out why the training is important.

"In terms of looking at precaution measures a health professional would take within health facilities as it relates to specific health event, how to protect ourself and how we would react to certain events in terms of the different protective gears that we would use."

"It is a training that will equip us in terms of understanding the specific health events and the relevant precaution measures that we need to take within hospital setting or within our health facility as we give attention to those patients and also in terms of how we further dealing with our health professionals who probably get exposed and who require certain protection at the end of the day."

"For example Ebola one of the big pop words on diseases. You know that we had recently been exposed to as an international threat and it would equip us in how we protect ourself, how we handle that patient. In terms of isolation, quarantine, and the whole aspect of the investigation."

The training was done in collaboration with the Caribbean Public Health Authority, known as Carpha, along with support from the Inter-American Development Bank.
