Amy Forte’s Attorney Doesn’t Want To Speak
posted (September 20, 2017)
Opposition Leader John Briceño says that he's disappointed that the police won't investigate Amy Forte's allegation that someone forged her signature in a fraudulent land conveyance to Andre Vega.

The land Vega got was private, so the Ministry of Natural Resources, which was being led by Vega's father, Gaspar Vega, compensated him with 7 acres of prime real estate on Mosquito Caye. When Forte brought it to the attention of Prime Minister Dean Barrow, he cancelled the title; while Andre Vega said that he gave it back.

So, it's a dubious case, but at this moment, it appears that no further action is being taken.

The police say that if Amy Forte does not come in and formally report the incident, they will not investigate her allegation because it is a wasted effort. The cops reason that they need a complainant to successfully prosecute defendants for criminal charges.

The PUP says that the police are deliberately avoiding the case, but we've been wondering why Forte hasn't cooperated with police, especially since she asserted that this alleged forgery threatened her reputation, her integrity, and could jeopardize her career.

So today, we went seeking answers from her attorney, Deshawn Arzu Torres. She was at the Supreme Court for another case, and when we approached her to comment on the topic she declined, saying that her client, Amy Forte, gave her no instructions to do so.

It's unclear what will happen to the 7 acres of land on Mosquito Caye since the Prime Minister has already cancelled Andre Vega's title. His relatives still own the two adjacent parcels - since they were also compensated in the shady transaction.
