Police Minister says PM Will Make Statement
posted (September 27, 2017)
And that minor is still missing tonight. It is a community crisis, and a political red zone for the Barrow Administration. Indeed, the GSU has been a very costly political albatross for the ruling UDP - and today, Police Minister Elrington stressed repeatedly that the Prime Minister is watching closely and will make a statement:...

Hon. Wilfred Elrington - Minister of Foreign Affairs
"We will deploy whatever resources the government needs to deploy with a view to try to find him. The Prime Minister intends to have a meeting tomorrow morning with the senior commander of the police force as well as myself to be fully briefed on the matter on all that is transpiring up to tomorrow morning. And he is proposing to make a public statement to the public in due course. So, he is leaving no stone unturned. He is very concerned about this matter. This is a matter that is being monitored momentarily by the Prime Minister. He is very concerned about it, he wants to get to the bottom of it and if it is necessary that we bring in foreign experts to look into it, he's also committed to doing that."

"Will the BDF helicopters be used? And why haven't they?"

Hon. Wilfred Elrington
"If it is deemed necessary, I'm sure it is gonna be used."

Jules Vasquez
"Well, in any search it is necessary. It's a standard feature."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington
"So, now that we have the helicopters, I'm sure we will, in fact, do what is necessary."

Jules Vasquez
"It sounds ridiculous but does the helicopters… are they functional? Do they have gas?"

Hon. Wilfred Elrington
"Oh, the helicopters are functional and the government has resources to purchase gas. So, that in a way it's almost frivolous. I hear people making these ridiculous assertions and suggestions but I don't think that a serious journalist like yourself would entertain those thoughts. The government has resources to buy gas and the government has acquired two beautiful helicopters."

Jules Vasquez
"It seems rudimentary that whenever there are missing people in a vast, uninhabited area that helicopters would be used."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington
"We leave it to the experts. They advise the government that these things are necessary and the government is going ensure that in fact these things are used."
