Claver College Teachers Down South Not Happy
posted (October 3, 2017)
And while the BNTU celebrates its strike journey while it keeps the fires burning, teachers down South are just starting their campaign.

Yesterday the teachers from the Claver College Extension were on a go slow. None of them showed up at their classes that start at 6:00 in the evening. The Director told our colleagues at PGTV that the government is not paying the usual stipend to the teachers and they are not happy about that at all.

Andre Price, Dir., Claver College Extension - PG
"The teachers as of today are going on a small go slow protest against the school for their little financial stipend that they received once a month. The stipend that we were looking at was from the government of $6,000 a month for 10 months of the year. We have not received it and the teachers are a little bit upset. What happen is that the Minister of Education Hon. Patrick Faber had offered us $6,000 a month for 10 months out of the school year for the teacher's stipend or salary. I was waiting for that tranchement of money to start in September and it didn't come in. When I contacted the Ministry of Education, they said there was no funds there for CCE."

The teachers should have gotten their stipend in September. They say this isn't the first time they are having trouble to get their stipend. We'll follow up on this tomorrow.
