The Lesson Of Teacher’s Street
posted (October 3, 2017)
We also asked Leslie about the City Council's plan for the recently paved Teacher's Street in the west Landivar area. It's become a main link between Blue Marlin Drive and University Drive which are also paved. But the narrow street is struggling to keep up with the traffic. Leslie explained:

Dion Leslie, City Councilor
"Those who do traffic Teachers Street in the morning it's been an issue since we've concreted the street. We've upgraded it, the street became a little narrow that it was before and you do have vehicles parking on the side, so the morning commute for those coming and going from that area, it's been a headache, because it's not openly a two-way street, so we said let's look at it, let's do it for one week, let's try it out to see how it is then we go back to the residents, we go back to the community and we get their input on it if its working or if it's not working, will it work, will it not work and so we are doing the one week trial and then come the end of the week we will meet with residents and see whether or not it was successful or not. It something that it's not set in stone. It not like that forever. It's just a one week trial and then come the end of the week we will revisit it, we will dialogue and then we make a further decision from there."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Might you all contemplate paving maybe Chancellor Street?"

Dion Leslie, City Councilor
"If that one is turned into one-way permanently we do have to look at the traffic flow and upgrading the other streets to accommodate the traffic flow. So it's something that we have discussed, something that we know we have to do, but we are doing this first before we move on to that step."
